Overall I am pleased with the device, it gets four stars for being ruined after one surge though. I also had a power surge which tripped the surge protection, shut the device down, and turned on the audible alarm. Last winter, I had a leaking window send water directly into the surge protector. There is no resetting it. As far as my eyes can tell, this device does clean up dirty HD coaxial signals and AC power.
However, Monster did send me a new device within two weeks. The protector did catch fire, but it shut itself off in time to save my equipment and probably my apartment building. By "dirty" I mean that prior to using this device I could see scrolling bars going through my TV's picture, likely a ground loop. I live in an old brownstone and purchased this device to clean up the power and coaxial signals I send to my home theater. I have also had two situations where the device protected my equipment.
It is important to note that if you do have a surge and the audible alarm goes off, as I did, the device is rendered useless after that.
have HDTV, cable box, receiver, subwoofer, Blu-ray, and antenna plugged in without any space issues. great price on Amazon, meets my needs perfectly. flat outlet plug is a plus
Why not spend the 200-300 dollars (if you insist on Monster. http://www.amazon.com/Monster-Reference-MKII-PowerCenter-Circuitry/dp/B000AYDQB6/ref=sr_1_1.ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1222280005&sr=1-1 ) that will protect the thousands you spent on your HT. The systems I have purchased these for have not been high end setups. It is much cheaper on Amazon. I'm not sure about the claim process noted by the other reviewer, but so far they seem to work fine. I've purchased a couple of these for a couple of home theaters and haven't had a problem yet. (Probably because my house hasn't experienced a major power surge yet) Do not buy this at Best Buy as they charge retail prices. If you ARE considering this for a multi-thousand dollar home theatre/audio setup, I would HIGHLY suggest that you buy something nicer.
I guess I could deal with this if i new the chances were really low because the surge protector would actually work. I would not recommend this at all. Fill out 3 pages, draw out a diagram, send all your equipment to certified manufacturer repair shop, wait for all the quotes, send them to monster, and then wait 4 weeks for a response. I figured I could call upon the warranty to get my stuff fixed, but the monster claim process is worse than most insurance companies. When my apartment was struck by lightning, the power supply failed to protect most of the components. I purchased this to protect a lot of my expensive equipment. I lost my computer, Yamaha receiver, Nintendo Wii, Wireless router, and HP printer. I am still waiting to get my stuff fixed.
